Economic Development Project. 2016-2017. Funded by the Knight Foundation.
We collected data from local businesses through business surveys and a focus group session. The data revealed an evident economic shift from old businesses to emerging immigrant markets. The results further revealed a distinct lacuna of inter-group contact between immigrant and host populations.
Community Dialogue. 2018. Funded by the Society for the Study of Peace, Conflict, and Violence.
We conducted Community Dialogue in a diverse but divided neighborhood including resettled refugees, longstanding white and black communities and observed the impact of this inter-group contact. The ongoing analysis includes examinations of linguistic, empathetic, and social network shifts before, immediately after, and 3 months after the dialogue. Here, we study the wider possibilities of application for this as a model in community engaged scholarship, refugee resettlement, and conflict resolution addressing group/community level tensions.
